Southern FM has long been a favourite station of mine, the presenters have always seemed personality-driven and fun to listen to.
But it seems GCap are trying to change it by turning it into a 'Mix Network' station.
I'm not too sure about the addition of Late Night Love with Graham Torrington to the schedules - it's a good show, sure, but it doesn't fit in with the ethos of the station. I would hope GCap reverses this decision.
The rest of the line-up is good - Luke Smith, Garry Wilson, Chris Copsey and the weekend dance shows are great!!!
I would hope GCap do not mess up a successful formula - they've got a good thing going there!
Party Friday/Saturday and Music on Demand with James Clayton/Andy Henly wouldn't fit in with their image. I'm not bashing the former GWR shows, just stating my opinion! (GWR do, and did make very good quality shows!!)
Total Request Nighttime on Southern FM is good.... and it's fun to see if Invicta/Power FM presenters appear.
Tom Bushell is a top new talent, and seems great on his weekend 80s shows which are a great alternative to 102.7 Mercury FM's networked shows!
Surely if GCap are going to change this station, there should be a rule about overlap and networking, e.g:
If Music Control/Late Night Love/Music on Demand/Party Friday & Saturday are taken by 102.7 Mercury FM (which overlaps slightly with Southern FM), then Southern FM should not take the networking.
I think this is a good rule of thumb - would work well in Birmingham and also Hampshire (overlap with 2CR).
Anyone else listen to Southern FM - I do quite regularly now, not as much as BRMB or Key 103, but still regularly enough to post about it here!
