I heard rumours on another radio forum that GCap are set to network Late Night Love on the One Network.
It's confirmed that this will be on 100 Century FM in the North East, but I would hope it does not come to the former Capital stations.
The reason why, is that they are 'lifestyle' stations - look at their website design, and listen to their on-air presentation style, it's all lifestyle-oriented.
Compare that with the former GWR stations websites - they are plain (but not in a dull way) and simple, same as the 'Today's Best Mix' format (no, I'm not bashing the former GWR stations!)
I'm not sure Music Control/Late Night Love, excellent stations as they are, would fit in with their ideals (marketing etc.)
OK, so Late Night Love seems to fit in on Invicta well, but only because Invicta is such a Hot AC station in terms of music policy - the new "best mix of the 80's, 90's and today" policy is good, if not the speech levels.
I can't see it working on BRMB, Southern, Red Dragon, Fox and Power FM, or indeed 105.4 Century FM. The local late shows seem well-produced, and get regulars phoning up every day/week etc. A networked show probably may not get that level of loyalty.
Also you can get Late Night Love in Birmingham on Beacon/Mercia, and in Southern's TSA, it's on 102.7 Mercury FM.
Same for the slight overlap between Fox and Severn Sound/2-TEN FM.
I can't see it ever working on Power FM because, in my opinion, Power FM seems like a cross between Vibe 101, Capital FM and an EMAP Big City station.
Same for Music Control. It wouldn't work on BRMB, Southern FM, Power FM, Fox FM, Red Dragon FM for the reasons given above.
What does everyone else think? I think GCap are making a big mistake here, if this is true....
