Filmmakers should keep in mind the saying ‘well begin is half done’. A film without good foundation is like a house built on sand. ‘Aswaroodan’ is a good example. It has mediocre script with no sentiments. It is very much unlike director Jayaraj, who had won national awards twice in the past. To be precise, it is the script by Mahesh and Sajiv that has let the film down.

Veerabhadran (Suresh Gopi) is a chieftain in an adivasi stronghold. He gives his helping hands to anyone who comes to him without looking at their identities. The people of the village believe him and go by his words like they did to his father Viswanathan (Captain Raju), who was killed by Manickan (Saikumar). Manickan takes the side of Veerabhadran only to put him down. Now, the hero tries to do away the evil after coming to know the truth.

The film also has Padmapriya, who plays the role of a Brahmin girl Seeta Lakshmi. She organizes the adivasis to fight for their rights. This way, she invited the wrath of Manickan. Now, she seeks protection in Veerabhadran. Justice comes in the end.

The film would have been a complete bore if not for brilliant cinematography and artworks. The director has tried to wrap real life incident into the film for sentimental purpose but has failed terribly. Suresh Gopi’s role is stereotype. He should have chosen a different script. Padmapriya has nothing much to do in the film. Her performance is mediocre but Sai Kumar has done a good job as a villain. Jassie Gift’s music is cool and soothing but it could not save the film from falling.

On the whole, ‘Aswaroodan’ is a failure.
