I entered the medical bay and sat on the chair. The doctor was there already and he asked me what was wrong.

I showed him my shoulder.

In the port town at Mr Stubbs' map making shop I was shot in the shoulder. Instead of having it seen to imediatly I had instead tried to aprehend Mr Stubbs.

Now my shoulder was bleeding badly and it hurt. A lot.

"I think the bullet is still inside," I said the doctor as I removed my shirt, "how bad is it? Will it heal?"

I peeled back the Cpatain's shirt - it looked pretty grim, with pieces of fabric deep in the the wound. To be honest, it looked worse than it really was, but no one likes to see blood or wounds, not even Doctors...

"The bullet has missed anything major, I think this is just a flesh wound, but we'll have to do a couple of things to help the healing process... now this will sting a little"

I took a bottle of rubbing alchohol and sprinkled a little on the wound - the Captain flinched as the wound sizzled slightly, and I noticed him clenching his teeth a little too as I reached in with a pair of tongs and pulled out the bullet, dropping it in a small metal tin.

I then wrapped some cloth tightly around the wound, and tied the bandage quite tightly.

"I wouldn't do anything too strenous with that arm - it'll be best to let it rest for a couple of days - but the wound should heal and leave you nothing but a scar" I told the Captain.

"For the pain, I'd advise a drink of whiskey once in a while"

"Whiskey shall not be a problem Doc!" I said laughing though still in pain, "As for the scar... that's just one of many! Do you think I could keep the bullet...I like to save items like that as memories!"

The doctor passed me the bullet.

"I am glad you were innocent Doc," I said talking about the criminal, "I feel somewhat sorry for Mr Stubbs now."
"You know," I continued, "with everything that has gone on, we never did get to have that drink! We shall have to organise it soon... maybe it could be part of my 'healing'!" I laughed again... a little too hard. It hurt my shoulder!

I laughed in agreement, "Yes, why not?"

"But first I'd better see to my own injuries, unfortunately, I can't do that here - plus I need some more alcohol, so I'm going to quickly pop to the pub, and shall tidy myself up a little..."

I was taken to the medical bay and was laid down on the bed. My chest hurt bad. The doctor had told me that luckily the bullet missed anything vital and I would soon be back on my feet. However I wanted to be back on my feet now!
The engine room had just been hit by a large cannonball... Pete needed my help!

We got to the medical bay at last! There had been some difficulties getting Miss Corr here, as the ship had been hit by cannonballs a number of times.

Helen Corr was losing blood. Her arm appeared limp by her side. I wondered just how the doctor was going to be able to save it...

(OOCI'm probably very historically inaccurate here, but I'm sure we can get away with it wink.gif )

Getting Miss Corr down on the bed, I knew she had lost a LOT of blood.

"Well, we only have one chance to save your arm." I told Miss Corr.

"It's an extremely new procedure, and has only been attempted a couple of times before. It involves a process where we take someone else's blood and put it into your arm. It's called a Blood Transfusion."

Miss Corr looked at me worried.

"However, a body will only accept a certain type of blood, so we must find someone on the ship who's blood matches yours. Thankfully I managed to get a blood testing kit from my old practise before we left, but I'll need to find out your blood type first."

Getting the kit from my bag, I pricked Miss Corr's finger, and s drop of blood came from her finger. Acting carefully, I wiped the blood onto a sample, and then added it to a chemical fluid. Checking the chart, I found Miss Corrs blood type.

"Right then, whos first to volunteer their blood?" I asked.

"Please," I said, "somebody give their blood! Please!"

I step forward.

"I shall go first!"

The thought that Helen Corr's arm could be saved by me amused me!She would then owe me! I could get anyhting I wanted from her!

I pricked George Cander's finger.

A small drop of blood came out, which I then added it to the fluid.

I waited with baited breath...

"Sorry Mr Cander, yours is NOT the right blood type..."
