Early one Sunday morning, I called everyone to the Recreation Room in order to fianlly sort something out which has needed sorting out for some time now. The position of First Mate.

"As most of you know," I began when everyone had arrived, "and some of you don't, our old First Mate, Jimmy O'Malley, eneded up betraying us to the Pirates of the Valtriani. This caused us great suffering and pain but we eventually got over it. Since then, I have put off recruiting a ne First Mate. However now I do beleive it is time."

I looked around at everyone in the room.

"Many of you I know like you were family and I would trust you with my life," I continued, "and many of you I have only just met. But one of you will become the new First Mate. I invite you to apply for the position. Anyone is welcome to apply. I will take into account each and every applicatant and get the answer back to you as soon as possible.
Here is the application form..."

I handed them all a piece of paper with the Application form on it

"All you have to do is fill it in. Good luck to you all," I said with a smile.

(Below is the application form. If you wish to apply, please fill it in as apost in this forum. Thank you)

As I stood listening to the Captain, I decided not to apply for the postion of first mate. I did'nt think I had the leadership skills required for such an important role. Plus I was happy with what I was doing in the science labs.

Adrian handed everyone an application form.

I looked at the form, folded it up and handed it back to the Captain. "Sorry Adrian I must refuse, I work with my engines and thats all I ever will work with," I glanced back at Olivia, "I like being the Chief Engineer."

The Captain nodded in agreement and happily took the form back. I thought all the crew were worthy of being the First Mate, I think it was just the unease of replacing a traitor. I hoped that every one would forget this and show us a new first mate, one thats dependable.

I didn't really expect to ever be given the job as first mate, and to be honest I wasn't sure if I even wanted to be! I was ahppy where I was as an engineer. However, no one had as yet handed the captain an application form, and he seemed a little upset by the fact that no one wanted to be first mate. So I filled one in.

NAME: Olivia Thorn

POSITION ONBOARD: Engineer

WHY YOU WOULD BE GOOD AS FIRST MATE: I am a reliable person who does her best to make sure the ship is 'tip-top'. The crew onboard seem to like me as I have a friednly approach to life and I beleive that they would listen to me. I am loyal to the Kingston and to Captain Warner and would do everything in my power to keep us in one piece.

I handed the application form to the captain with a smile. He had seemed very down lately.

NAME: Tess Bail

POSITION ONBOARD: Engineer

WHY YOU WOULD BE GOOD AS FIRST MATE: I have good communication skills and am a happy person. I also have 'gifts' that are allowing me to expand my knowledge of life. I think these 'gifts' would come in handy for a first mate.

NAME: Sergeant 'Phoenix' Sheppard

POSITION ONBOARD: Security chief

WHY YOU WOULD BE GOOD AS FIRST MATE: The captain and I have served together before and have known each other for many years. I am storng both physically and of mind and am not phased by difficult situations. I have been a member of the crew since the ship first set sail and not once hav eI given any reason for people to doubt my commitment to the mission. Also I get along well with the crew and they seem to look up to me.

I handed the application form to the captain. All of what I had said in it was ture, however I still felt as though I was betraying him. Afterall, my real reasons for being here were still a secret to all. However the reason I was here could soon be revealed... I beleived I had found the evidance I was looknig for...

I tried to read the application form and found that the squirly writing was very hard to read. So I took it to the table, grabbed a lead stick in a a fist and started to write in my large thick Dwarven style writting. My tounge stook out as I dragged the pencil up and down the page.

Happy with what I wrote, I nodded and then walked up to the captain and handed the form up to him, "Heres mine Captain."

I took the letters of application thankfully and read through them. They all so far had very interesting reasons why they should be first mate. This was going to be a tricky decision.

The last one I looked at was from Togan the Dwarf and to be honest,I found it very hard to read.

Still, he had just as much chance as the ohters at getting the postion.

I took the form and filled it in.

Name: Mr. Eos

Postion onboard: Security

Why would be good as first mate: I have been trained as a lethal weapon. I can offer protection and safty for the crew, even though I am newly disabled, I still have the trust of the crew and they value my morals. I would be an ideal first mate because the crew would listen to me, and I would listen to the you as the Captain to give my orders. Jobs will always get down when given to me.

I handed the slip into the Captain. I thought at the back of my mind that losing my arm made my less a man. But being first mate would make me whole again. I looked to my superior, Phoenix, and realised that he'd probally be the one to get the role having know that captain a long while.
