This topic pertains to matters involving what types of data the general public is entitled to view. I want to make this clear--this is about quering and viewing (rendering & presenting) data for the general public.

Per the Excel sheet (as of May 5, 2007 6:30 PM PST):
  • Action: Decide upon Decision
  • Decision: See #13, and yes, public should be able to sort by lots of fields
  • Cliff: The public should have some ability to view the data in a fun way. Like NUFORC and WWPRC, users can sort by date, location, type of activity (or craft for UFOs), etc. For each database, the user should be able to search and sort by a few parameters. But don't allow them access to the .csv or .txt file since that will give them the ability to do their own analysis of the data.
  • Mike:
  • Sean: Anyone can scrape the site data (this is how ufomaps.com grabs the NUFORC data), so there's no reason to hide CSV and XML outputs from them. Especially in this age of mash-ups, we want to encourage developers to use our XML to power their web apps, since this would drive additional traffic to our site. All sorts of searching should be included, including "by investigator" as this comes in really handy.

I'm for the public being able to sort by parameters such as:

- Date
- Location
- Type of Activity

And be able to view all information per entry (after they click on a particular entry) except the user's information who entered it.

We can make our reports completely flexible when it comes to sorting.

When it comes to sorting by date, we can sort by date entered and/or date of the experience.

We can sort by a location's country, state, and city.

And we can sort by phenomenon category (Visual, Auditory, Olfactory, etc.).
