Alright... I think I'm more or less finished... all that's left to do is to finish up my other characters, which I'll post up later. Anyway, here's all that I wrote up. Hope ya guys like it!
World name- Zarantria
World History:
All of the known explored land on the single continent, and even what little unknown land that is rumored to exist across the ocean is referred to in whole as Zarantria. At first, Zarantria consisted hundreds of small provinces, made up of a huge variety of people that seemed to take comfort in separating themselves based on even the smallest differences. That is, until they found an excuse to merge the provinces - to fight each other. Extending from the most western to the most northern point is a huge mountain range, cutting off the entire western continent from the ocean. The provinces that existed in that area had very few resources and soil suitable for farming. The first civilized generations lived without any issues, until what few resources and little food they had began to wear thin. In a panic, leaders of the provinces took what some might call a step in the progression of mankind by banding together with a common purpose – if not for the questionable motives behind it. They were planning to campaign across the continent, taking as much territory as they could; they did just that. When spring came, their nearest neighboring province was sacked and taken over. They marched on the capitol of the next one after a few days’ rest.
Needless to say, word spread quickly of the happenings throughout the remaining provinces. The leader of the largest and most successful Province of the time, Fleurren, organized the rest of the remaining provinces into a single nation under his province’s name. They quickly organized a primitive military and stood tall and proud, ready for the fight. The western province, (now called Assylah), shattered Fleurren’ troops like a hammer to glass.
And that is how it all started. Eventually, the Fleurrian people reorganized and managed to rise up and defeat the Assylians, driving them back into their old, useless territory. Then the Assylians took the Fleurrians by storm and re-took the territory. After a few generations of this back-and-forth warfare, the Fleurrians wised up, and fled the continent, sailing into the unknown, leaving the land and the few remaining people wide open to be taken over by the Assylians – which they were.
However, it soon became apparent that humans had developed a taste for blood, for a group within the Assylians formed their own group and rebelled against the Assylians. This group was brought together by a man named Yngvus, whom they named the group after.
Before long, the Yngvian people had developed their own monarchy, and established territory on the edge of the Assylian Empire. Gradually they gained more territory through small tactical campaigns and witty politics. Soon they rivaled the Assylians in power and territory.
Here is where an odd coincidence occurs. The Assylians, ever since they were equaled by the Yngvians, began planning an assault on the capitol of Yngvus in order to take their territory back. They began to mobilize, and within days of the launch of their campaign, completely unknown to the Assylians, Fleurrian ships began landing on Yngvian shores. The Assylians launched their campaign sending nearly every troop in their army to Yngvin (the capitol), and were blown away by the combined forces of Fleurren and Yngvus that awaited them.
Acting quickly, the Fleurrians and Yngvians marched to the now nearly undefended capitol of Catastronia. There they were met by the elite Catastronian army, whose soldiers were so powerful that it was rumored that they were not human.
The battle was long and bloody, wiping out over half of the Yngvian-Fleurren army, despite the fact that they outnumbered the Catastronians 4 to 1. Yet the city still fell, the Assylian monarchy was eliminated, and finally, people felt the beginnings of an age of peace. This is the time period you are in. The war ended a mere two years ago, and the people are just beginning to embrace the riches that have been bestowed upon them by their nation’s victory. Even the dirt poor are happy, for they don’t have to worry about their homes being burned by marching armies. While there is still a military, the emphasis of its importance has been reduced, and now the nation is concentrating on further increasing its wealth internally. Assylah is now in ruin, all of its land taken over, yet no longer inhabited. The location of Fleurren is still unknown. Your character now lives in a rare moment of peace in the timeline of the world, but it can’t be expected to last long, for there are still those who wish to rekindle the flames of war. People will soon realize who they really side with and who they don’t.
Places-
- Yngvin: Capital of Yngvus province. Yngvus is what most would refer to as the central power of the world at the time. During times of war, it became prosperous by maintaining a neutral status, supplying both sides of the conflicts for profit. Now the nation is at its peak, and continues to rise in both population and power. Nobility is a commonplace in the city (peasants and other middle to lower class people are generally located in small villages outside the city), and people are beginning to adapt a sort of ‘roaring twenties’ lifestyle, living to the fullest as they reap the benefits of past wars with little to no regard of how they are affecting the world and their own fates. (1/3 main provinces). The population mostly consists of Yngvian humans of high class and a few Assylians who moved there after the wars, working mostly domestic jobs for the nobility.
((while this may somewhat contradict the world history, this is indeed the case. The wars weren’t struggles that lasted a few years; they generally lasted decades, during which many smaller groups within the Provinces began to rebel in hopes of ending the wars. Both sides took advantage of these happenings.))
- Assylah: The living equivalent to hell. The land is extremely mountainous, and what little vegetation might have remained to re-grow is gone now. The Assylah province was the main aggressor in past wars, constantly trying to gain territory other than remote mountains. The last war took the largest toll. Not only is the land in horrible shape, but the area is mostly abandoned now, for most of its inhabitants have moved to neighboring provinces. Only the most severe creatures live there, and what few humans left have nearly become animals themselves due to the extreme environment in which they live. Assylah once had a capitol called Catastronia, but it was taken over in the last war, every member of the government killed, and their monarchy is replaced by anarchy. During the war, propelled by both victory and defeat, the inhabitants slowly began to lose their humanity. While there are still humans existing, they are sorely outnumbered by the most grotesque manifestations of life ever seen on the continent. (1/3 main provinces).
- Fleurren: Fleurren is a unique province in that the location is unknown (although some speculate that it must be across the sea somewhere, for that is from where the main bulk of their people came to the Yngvus province). Some even say that it has no true location. During the times of war, it was this province fighting against the Assylians for territory. The inhabitants of Fleurren are typically wizard-folk and the like, flaunting huge wealth and magical power that seems to originate from nowhere. (1/3 main provinces).
Races:
Angel: Don’t go there.
Centaur (Yngvus): The centaur is a creature bred by the Fleurrians during the last war as a counter to the Assylian ogres. Centaurs are highly intelligent and civilized (despite living in the wild forests). They hold highly spiritual beliefs gathered from studying the stars in the night sky. They are well-suited for nearly any profession, from soldier to politician to wizard. A very PC friendly race, imho.
Demon: See angel.
Human:
Yngvus- The Yngvus province holds an astounding number of nobles and politicians. They generally take the same profession as their parents before them be it warrior, shoemaker, etc. The ones that live in the capital are generally nobles or politicians. Outside the capital, people generally professionalize in shoemaking, farming, etc., but the most common occupation (at least, 3 years previously) was soldier. If your human character is a resident of the Yngvus province, you will always have enough money to live without too much trouble (i.e., you always have food on the table, stuff like that). Yngvian culture revolves around a steady work pace during the day, and hard partying/drinking at night.
Assylah- There are relatively few humans left in what is left of Assylah. Those who remain are dirt poor, living in caves and sleeping under the stars. All Assylians are best when it comes to surviving in the wilderness, be it with a group or on their own (hence why they are still alive). Due to the lack of wealth, structures, or industry, the Assylians live a more spiritual life, worshiping spirits of nearly any animal or natural object imaginable. The life of an Assylian is the life of an animal, hunting and gathering for food, living without proper shelter from the elements.
Fleurren- Currently, Fleurren territory is unknown. Most speculate that it is across the sea where they arrived from. The few that arrived on the ships have taken places in the Yngvus province as nobles and university teachers. The mind of a Fleurrian human is a mind revolving completely around science, logic and magic. Most Fleurrians believe that religion and spiritualism cloud one’s mind to the truth of the world, and inhibit one from leading a successful life.
Ogre (Assylah): Ogres are brutal humanoids that were bred for one purpose: war. Arrogant and stupid, ogres make great soldiers and bodyguards, but are otherwise a nuisance to deal with. Better off as NPCs (although I think it’d be kinda funny to see a mutation in the ogre gene pool: an ogre with glasses and a British accent teaching at a random academy or something along those lines. Just a thought). Generally speaking, Ogres don’t have the intelligence to develop culture; they simply live out their days hunting and gathering in the harsh Assylah environment.
Undead anything (Assylah): The constant warring produced a massive body count over the ages. Needless to say, once the Fleurrians arrived to fight, the art of necromancy was born, and now there are uncontrolled dead walking around the mountains and barren plains of Assylah. While I wouldn’t recommend making an undead character (except for maybe a vampire, which I’d like to see one at most), it would still be funny to have someone posting as a zombie grunting at people then trying to eat their brains. The real purpose for me having undead in this RP is to have NPCs to kill when there is little plot progression and people are bored.
If you have any questions about any of the races, or even some suggestions for one, then feel free to ask me.
